Gameplay

Main Systems

The gameplay of Jewel Knights can be described by these key features:

  1. Strategic Team RPG

  2. Realtime Player vs. Player Matches

  3. Treasure Hunting

  4. Breeding

Strategic Team RPG

Jewel Knights is a strategic team RPG where players will form teams of characters to go on quests and battle against opponents for rewards. Character types and how they work with each other are key to successful battle parties. Additionally, upon battling, the positioning of the party on the battleground will be important in conjunction with the skills used.

Battle Concepts

  • Select Skill Cards paying close attention to the Order of Action of your characters

  • Skill Cards are distributed randomly

  • Each Skill Card has a cost associated with it and players can select up to their maximum Cost Count

  • Strategies must be carefully planned based on available skills, cost and order of action

  • The random nature of Skill Cards provides surprise opportunities for different strategies but can also become a handicap for existing strategies if they cannot adapt

  • Once all skill cards have been selected for the turn, the battle begins

  • Cost can be saved for subsequent turns – this allows for future turns to use more expensive cards which can be beneficial if your characters can survive that far

Realtime Player vs. Player Matches

In addition to non-realtime matches against CPU and player controlled opponents, special events will host true realtime player vs player matches. These will provide the ultimate level of competition and rewards.

Treasure Hunting

The Mission mode will provide players with battles that will enable them to potentially obtain high value rewards. These high value rewards only come with some level of risk - players will have to contend with the price of entry and party requirements for some of these high-end missions, however they can look forward to great and unique fortunes for their hard work.

Breeding

Breeding takes two characters and creates a new character with a hybrid blend of the characteristics of both characters. Players can add these new characters to their parties or sell them at the marketplace. Breeding characters close to the genesis characters will have the purest forms of their skill characteristics but may be less versatile especially in low party count, high difficulty situations. The prudent Jewel Knight player will want to diversify their character rosters to have enough flexibility to build parties spontaneously based on performance requirements.
